Making Sense of Search Engine Optimisation
An informal workshop session hosted by Stourbridge web company Wilkes Design Ltd
in partnership with Talbots Solicitors
Hagley Hall, Wednesday 9th September 2009, 10.00am
When it comes to sales and marketing no business can afford to ignore the power of internet search engines, typically the first port of call for anyone looking for a product or service. That’s great if your website appears on the first page, but all too often it’s your competitors that appear long before your own website – very frustrating! What do they know that you don’t? What have they done that you haven’t?
Find out how to get above your competitors in the ranking wars. Search Engine optimisation (SEO) is the key to success and it typically involves a series of processes, including:
- What your customers are searching for, what search words and phrases they use.
- Identifying any “technical” shortcomings in your current website design, e.g. navigational problems or other “brick walls” that need to be removed or modified.
- Copywriting in the internet age - Reviewing the content of your web pages and rewriting where necessary to ensure the right messages are sent to both your visitors and search engines.
- Meta data: We explain what it is, why it’s important
- Domain name considerations – what constitutes a good domain?
- Blogs and forums: how they can help and if so should you use them?
- Are you pursuing the right strategy for your internet presence?
- Dubious practices to avoid – we explain “keyword stuffing” and other “black hat” techniques including doorway or landing pages, plus other practices you should avoid.
We will be addressing these issues and more if time allows, in an informal workshop session, demystifying what is an often misunderstood topic, using practical advice borne out of years of experience. The session will be online, enabling us to demonstrate real examples of good and bad SEO practice. The event will be presented by Colin MacDonald and James Wilkes of Wilkes Design, who between them have no less than 30 years of experience with the internet. To book your place on this event please contact Colin at Wilkes Design on 0845 230 0203 or email colin@wilkesdesign.com.
